The Osteria Battipalla was founded in the 50s and its history is deeply linked to the history of Florence, city of art and deeprooted culinary traditions. Historically the Osteria offered refreshment to the artisan of the Santa Croce and Sant’Ambrogio district. A carpenter and a ceramist produced their artifacts in the current rooms of the Osteria and consumed their meals while enjoying the view of the Piazza with good glass of wine. After the flood, the district of Santa Croce as the whole historic city has been adapted and expanded taking the name of Battipalla. Specifically, Battipalla was the place where the leather ball was beaten during the historical football game. Two marble slabs, round in shape, walled up in the facades of buildings in front of them, marked the middle line of the field.
